DAP man: Delayed road works along Jalan Barrack causing inconvenience to business premises

KUCHING, April 28: The delayed completion of road upgrading works along Jalan Barrack (Jalan Court House) is causing inconvenience to business premises along the street, says special assistant to Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii, George Lam.

Lam said he was informed by business owners along the street that before the Hari Raya celebrations, the upgrading project had come to a halt.

“The delay in this project has resulted in the formation of potholes, causing water ponding, and cars that drive by will kick up dusts which finds its way into nearby shoplots.

“I was told by a business owner there that he had to clean up at least five times a day just to prevent his shoppers from falling down because of small pebbles,” he said in a statement today.

He said the further delay in this project will prolong the inconvenience faced by businesses along the street, as well as to visiting shoppers and tourists.

He also said that that during a ground inspection at the location, it was found that the project has been delayed and there are no workers on the ground to carry out the upgrading works.

“Therefore, as this road has a high volume of traffic, to ensure that road safety is observed, Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) is urged to monitor their contractors’ performance, expedite the project, and change incompetent contractors if they are still unable to complete the work on time,” added Lam. — DayakDaily
