KUCHING, Dec 18: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen welcomes the appointment of Mordi Bimol as the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, describing it as a historic milestone for the party.
In a press statement today, Chong highlighted that Mordi is the first DAP Dayak Member of Parliament to be appointed as a deputy minister.
“It also shows clearly that DAP Sarawak is a party for all races and put to rest the malicious and baseless accusation that DAP Sarawak is a Chinese party,” he said.
He also lauded Mordi’s steadfast commitment and said he has earned the appointment on his merits and upon the recommendation and strong support of DAP Sarawak.
“Mordi has joined DAP Sarawak at the age of 26 in 2011. When many have joined the party, stood as candidate in elections only to leave the party after losing the elections,
“Mordi persisted in the party’s struggle despite having lost twice in 2013 General Elections and 2016 Sarawak State Elections.
“He continued to serve in his area and was finally rewarded by the people in his first electoral win in Mas Gading in the 2018 General Elections. With his hard work and persistence, he successfully defended his seat with a bigger majority in the 2022 General Elections,” he said.
Chong also pointed out that while there has been attempts to lure Mordi out of the party, he remained steadfast, holding strong to the principles and struggles of the DAP Sarawak in the ups and downs of his political journey.
“With this important appointment also comes great responsibilities.
“We wish him all the best. DAP Sarawak has every confidence that he will perform well as the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports helping to develop the youths of Sarawak and alleviate the standards of sports in Sarawak,” Chong added. – DayakDaily
