Daily Covid-19 cases in Sarawak rise to 407 as Kuching reports 198

KUCHING, July 25: New Covid-19 cases reported in Sarawak increased to 407 today from 261 yesterday as Kuching continued to top the ranks in terms of new cases for the twelfth consecutive days.

There were also two new fatalities reported, bringing the death toll due to Covid-19 in Sarawak to 457.

According to a report from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Kuching registered the highest number of new cases in Sarawak at 198 out of the 407 new cases.

It was followed by Serian with 38 cases, Samarahan (34), Sibu (23), Bintulu (17), Simunjan (15), Mukah (9), Miri (8), Saratok (8), Bau (8), Lundu (7), Telang Usan (7), Meradong (6), Sarikei (6), Beluru (5), Subis (5), Song (4), Kapit (3), Asajaya (2), Kabong (2), Tatau (1) and Tanjung Manis (1).

Out of 407 new cases reported, 286 cases were identified from close contacts to Covid-19 patients.

There were also 16 Covid-19 cases identified from individuals in existing active clusters, 44 cases from symptomatic screening at health facilities, 60 cases from other screening at health facilities and one case who is a returnee from Melaka who was asymptomatic.

SDMC said the Covid-19 case tally in Sarawak now stands at 73,986.

Meanwhile, two Covid-19 cases in Sibu passed away, of which one was a brought-in-dead (BID) case who did not have comorbidities.

Meanwhile, there were 199 Covid-19 patients in Sarawak reported to have recovered and been discharged bringing total recoveries to 68,900 cases or 93.13 per cent of the overall Covid-19 cases in the State.

There were 4,459 Covid-19 patients who are still being treated in various health facilities throughout the State with 34 patients in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) while 12 patients are on ventilators. — DayakDaily
