KUCHING, Sept 5: Curtin University Malaysia’s Hydrogen Testbed and Refuelling Station stands as a testament to the institution’s commitment to pioneering research and innovation in renewable energy.
According to a TVS news report, Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Curtin Malaysia, Professor Vincent Lee Chieng, stated that the project is in line with Sarawak’s energy transition aspirations, as outlined in the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“Hydrogen, as you know, holds immense potential as a clean energy source, and our investment in this technology underscores our dedication to contributing to a greener and more sustainable future,” he said.
Vincent made these remarks during the official opening ceremony of the Hydrogen Testbed and Refuelling Station, which took place at Curtin University Malaysia in Miri, today.
The ceremony was officiated by Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, representing Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Meanwhile, Abang Johari stated in his speech that the establishment of the Centre for New and Sustainable Energy Research and Enterprise (Conserv) at Curtin University Malaysia is a significant step forward in the pursuit of sustainable energy solutions.
He explained that the centre would serve as a platform for innovation, collaboration, and the development of cutting-edge technologies, driving Sarawak’s energy transition efforts.
“It aligns with our mission to position Sarawak as a leader in clean energy, not only for Malaysia but also for the broader Asean region,” he said.
The Premier’s speech, delivered by Lee during the International Conference on Energy Transition and Exhibition 2024 (ICETE’24) today, praised Curtin University Malaysia for its forward-thinking approach in integrating research, education, and industry collaboration in this critical field.
Abang Johari further highlighted the introduction of two new programmes — Bachelor of Engineering in Energy Engineering and Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics Engineering— at Curtin University Malaysia, which reinforces its role in cultivating talent and expertise essential for the future of energy. — DayakDaily
