KUCHING, Oct 1: The Congress of Union of Employees in the Public and Civil Services Malaysia (Cuepacs) Sarawak welcomes the Public Service Department (PSD) to make it mandatory for Federal civil servants to receive the Covid-19 vaccines.
Its chairman Omar Bahrein Unin said however, any action to be taken against civil servants who have not yet registered to receive the vaccines should be made with due consideration in a tolerant manner.
This includes identifying the real problem why they do not want to receive the vaccine and other reasonable excuses.
“We must abide the disciplinary action that may be taken against the civil servants as stated by the PSD because each civil servant is subject to the rules during their service.
“However, we hope that the disciplinary action will not be taken until a civil servant is dismissed or severely punished as this issue is new in public service and is not an offense involving a crime,” he said in a statement today.
For State civil servants, Cuepacs Sarawak strongly encourages them to receive the Covid-19 vaccines even though the Sarawak government has announced that there will no exertion of force.
“But it is important for civil servants to receive vaccines for the safety and health of themselves, families and communities in providing services to the people,” he added. – DayakDaily
