KUCHING, Oct 22: State Public Accounts Committee chairman Aidel Lariwoo today advised the opposition to wait for the Auditor-General (AG)’s Report before making statements that could hinder the implementation of projects in Sarawak.
Citing the Coastal Road and Second Trunk Road projects as examples, he said due to fierce criticism from the opposition, their implementation had been delayed.
“For these two projects, they were on the brink of implementation when the opposition made fierce criticisms against them and the state government had to stop them.
“Due to that, the people who had hoped for their implementation suffered due to the delay,” Aidel told DayakDaily today.
He stressed that both projects were crucial for the rural and coastal transformation of Sarawak.
Aidel, who is also Sadong Jaya assemblyman, highlighted that he did not want to be misconstrued as against transparency and anti-corruption, but he insisted that projects should be implemented for the good of the people.
“Of course, we want the end results to be of high quality and of high standard, but please don’t criticise for the sake of criticising as it hinders development,” he said.
Even though he did not mention names, it was obvious that he was referring to State Pakatan Harapan leaders like Chong Cheng Jen and See Chee How who have made numerous statements on this matter.
See had also criticised the purchase of a fixed-wing plane by the Sarawak Forestry Department and also the construction of the Darul Hana Musical Fountain. — DayakDaily
