KUCHING, June 16: The police have arrested seven individuals on June 6 in connection with a series of criminal activities including burglary and theft mainly targeting elderly people in Kuching, Kota Samarahan and Padawan.
With this criminal gang crippled, Sarawak Commissioner of Police Dato Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri announced that the police have successfully resolved at least 13 cases of robbery, two cases of breaks-in, and one case of motorcycle theft.
“The suspects, aged between 23 to 30-years-old, were apprehended at separate locations around Padawan and Kuching districts.
“Police also seized 11 sharp weapons, nine mobile phones of various brands, four bank cards, and a motorcycle which had been reported missing in Padawan,” he said in a statement today.
This criminal gang’s modus operandi primarily involved targeting elderly people in the morning and was predominantly active in Kuching, Kota Samarahan and Padawan.
All the apprehended suspects have previous criminal records related to burglary, breaks-in, vehicle theft, theft and drugs.
Mohd Azman said all the cases are investigated under Section 395/397, 380 and 378 of the Penal Code.
Currently, all the suspects are in custody until June 17 for further investigation. Once the remand period concludes, the investigation papers will be handed over to the prosecutors for charge.
