KUCHING, April 1: More organisations have stepped forward to channel donations to the State Disaster Management Committee to support the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Yesterday, the committee received a sum of RM1 million from Yayasan OBYU (OBYU).

The cheque from OBYU was presented by its representative Dr Haironi Yusoff to committee chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah after the committee’s daily meeting to update on the latest situation.

In a statement, OBYU said it “shares the deep concern over the spread of Covid-19 within Sarawak.”

“In line with one of our objectives to provide social and community support, we are extending our corporate responsibilities to assist the state government in its efforts to mitigate the negative impact and protect the well-being of all Sarawakians.”

Yayasan OBYU is a non-profit organisation set up to implement OBYU Group’s corporate responsibility and philanthropic initiatives. Since 2018, Yayasan OBYU has been actively contributing towards causes related to education, sports, religious activities and assisting under-privileged communities.

Among Yayasan OBYU’s major initiatives are construction of a new RM5 million examination hall at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), construction of a new school block for SK Abang Ali in Sibu, and regular support for Lembaga Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Sarawak (Peryatim).

Meanwhile, the Asaljuru Weida Sdn Bhd group also came forward to present a donation of RM106,725 for the purchase of various medical equipment for the Sarawak General Hospital.
