KUCHING, Jan 10: Sibu and Kuching have been categorised as Covid-19 red zones after reporting more than 40 cases each over the past fortnight.
According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a press statement, Sibu reported 44 local transmission cases in the past 14 days while Kuching reported 41 local transmission cases over the same period.
The committee added that Selangau and Sebauh districts have also been declared Covid-19 yellow zones as each district reported one new case of the coronavirus.
SDMC noted Samarahan, Miri, Sibu, Bintulu, Meradong, Bukit Mabong and Sri Aman remained as yellow zones as there were a total of 20 local transmission cases reported in the past 14 days.
The committee added 30 other districts in Sarawak remain unchanged as Covid-19 green zones with zero cases reported.
On another note, SDMC said there were five active clusters of Covid-19 in Sarawak, namely the Pasai Cluster in Sibu, Keranji Tabuan Cluster and Stutong Cluster in Kuching, Bah Sayap Cluster in Miri and Mador Cluster in Meradong.
The committee also dislcosed there were five new cases from the Pasai Cluster which lifted the total number of cases from the cluster to 43.
It added a total of 266 individuals have been screened for Covid-19 with 35 individuals testing negative and 148 individuals awaiting laboratory test results.
SDMC said there were also three new cases from the Stutong Cluster, raising the total number of cases from the cluster to 23.
A total of 402 individuals have been screened whereby 273 individuals tested negative and 106 individuals are awaiting laboratory test results.
The committee said there were two new cases from the Bah Sayap Cluster and one new case from the Keranji Tabuan Cluster.
For the Bah Sayap Cluster, a total of 134 individuals have undergone the Covid-19 swab test with 104 individuals testing negative and 19 individuals awaiting laboratory test results.
For the Keranji Tabuan Cluster, a total of 118 individuals have taken the Covid-19 swab test with 90 individuals testing negative and 16 individuals awaiting laboratory test results.
SDMC added that there were no new cases from the Mador Cluster in Meradong. — DayakDaily
