Covid-19: Sarawak sees 185 new cases, 64 related to Pasai Cluster

KUCHING, Feb 6: A total of 185 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the state today, with 64 cases related to the Pasai Cluster.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today, revealed Sibu recorded the highest number of new Covid-19 cases with a total of 101 cases reported.

This is followed by Lundu (19), Song (18), Dalat (12), Subis (seven), Kanowit (six), four each in Bintulu and Kapit, Bau (three), two each in Kuching and Saratok (two), and one each for Miri, Julau, Meradong, Belaga, Matu, Kabong and Lawas, bringing the total number of Covid-19 cases in the Sarawak to 5,457 cases.


According to SDMC, 32 new cases recorded in Sibu involved the Pasai Cluster, while another 30 cases are from positive individuals from active case detection (ACD), including five cases involving symptomatic individuals in Sibu health centre, as well as 34 new cases derived from individuals who had their screening test in the same health centre.

“Other districts also reported cases involving the Pasai Cluster, namely in Lundu (19), followed by Song (12), Subis (seven), Dalat (three), Kanowit (two) and one in Bintulu,” it said.

In Dalat, nine new cases were also recorded after an active case detection (ACD) was conducted in a locality under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).

In Kanowit, apart from the Pasai cluster cases, three cases were from ACD from positive Covid-19 contact, while one case was from the medical workers’ screening test.

For Bintulu district, apart from the one case involving the Pasai cluster, one case is detected involving the Jun Heng Cluster, one case involved Covid-19 close contact screening test, and one other from symptomatic screening test in Bintulu Health centre.

In Kapit, from the four cases registered, three cases are from Kapit Hospital’s patient screening test, while one other involved a positive Covid-19 close contact individual.

In Bau, all three cases recorded involved the Tabong Cluster, and at the same time, the two cases reported in Kuching involved individuals returning from Selangor, and one other from targeted ACD.

The two cases reported in Saratok were detected involving individuals conducting symptomatic screen tests in Saratok health facility.

In Miri, one case positive Covid-19 case reported is from ACD of a Covid-19 positive close contact, and the same situation was also reported in Julau (1), Belaga (1), and Matu (1).

For Meradong, the one case reported involved the Bintang Daily Cluster, while one case reported in Kabong involved an individual who visited another district (Song district), which was categorised as an Import C case.

In Lawas, one case was reported which is from an individual screened through a patient screening in a hospital. — DayakDaily
