KUCHING, May 20: Samarahan has become the latest district to be declared a Covid-19 green zone today, leaving only five districts in Sarawak as yellow zones.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas disclosed that the five districts still labelled yellow zones (zones with 40 or fewer Covid-19 cases) are Kuching, Tebedu, Lundu, Sibu and Serian.

“With, Samarahan turning into a green zone with no Covid-19 cases within the past 14 days, there are now a total of 35 districts which are green zones,” he told a daily press conference to provide Covid-19 situation updates here today.

Meanwhile, there are also no new Covid-19 infections reported in Sarawak for the seventh consecutive day, maintaining the state’s tally of positive cases at 544 and 17 fatalities.

Uggah revealed that two patients — one each in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and Sibu Hospital — have recovered and been discharged.

This means that as of today (May 20), 439 or about 80.70 per cent of the total 544 Covid-19 patients recorded in Sarawak, have fully recovered from the disease.

“There are still 87 patients being treated in hospitals with only one patient in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

“Sarawak also registered 41 more person-under-investigation (PUI) cases today while 32 cases are still awaiting laboratory test results,” he said.

Uggah added that 517 more person-under-surveillance (PUS) cases have been checked into selected hotels to undergo compulsory 14-day quarantines. — DayakDaily
