Covid-19: Malaysia sees 1,631 new cases, three fatalities

KUCHING, April 3: The country recorded a total of 1,631 new positive Covid-19 cases with three deaths today.

Ministry of Health (MOH) director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a press statement today said, from the total number of new cases recorded today, seven were imported cases involving four Malaysians and three foreigners while the remaining 1,631 cases are local transmission.

“Perak reported the highest number of new cases today with a total of 494 cases (30.2 per cent), followed by Selangor with 352 cases (21.5 per cent) and Sarawak with 290 cases (17.7 per cent).


“Other states that reported new cases today are namely Johor (83), Sabah (73), Kuala Lumpur (67), Kelantan (64), Pahang (35), Negeri Sembilan (25), Kedah (20), Melaka (20), Labuan (12), Putrajaya (seven), and Terengganu (four), while Perlis recorded zero new cases.

“This brings the total cumulative of positive Covid-19 cases in the country to 349,610 cases, with 14,432 active cases,”” he said.

At the same time, Dr Noor Hisham noted a total of 1,449 Covid-19 cases have also recovered today bringing the total cumulative of recovered Covid-19 cases in the country to 333,892 (95.5 per cent).

According to him, currently a total of 167 cases were being treated in the hospitals intensive care unit (ICU) with 81 of them under respiratory assistance.

“Three death cases involving Malaysians also were reported today namely one each in Kuala Lumpur, Kelantan and Sarawak. The ministry would like extend its condolences to all their family members,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham also disclosed a total of seven new Covid-19 clusters have also been identified today involving four community clusters and three workplace clusters.

“The new clusters are Simpang Tiga Merotai and Jalan Kubota Sentral clusters in Sabah, Kampung Binyu cluster in Sarawak, Jalan Merdeka cluster in Johor, Jalan Kenanga cluster in Melaka, Jalan Bandar Sembilan cluster in Negeri Sembilan, and Teknologi Peramu Jaya cluster in Pahang.

“A total of 184 individuals were tested positive for Covid-19 in the seven new clusters,” he said. — DayakDaily
