Covid-19: Malaysia reports 7 new cases, none from PUI Sivagangga cluster

KUCHING, Aug 8: Seven new positive Covid-19 cases were reported in Malaysia today, says Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said this brings the cumulative number to 9,070 cases of Covid-19 in Malaysia as of today.


“Out of the seven new reported cases today, six were import cases with one each from China, Yemen, Myanmar, Japan, Pakistan and Mexico.

“There was only one local transmission case involving a Malaysian who is working in Negeri Sembilan. He has a history of working in Indonesia before returning to Malaysia on May 7,” he said in a statement on the national Covid-19 updates today.

Dr Noor Hisham also stated that two positive Covid-19 cases are receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) while one case needed respiratory assistance.

On the number of active cases, he said 170 patients are receiving treatment in isolation wards across the country.

As for the PUI Sivagangga cluster, 4,198 individuals have undergone the screening but no new case was reported from Kedah, Perlis or Penang today

“43 cases were found positive, 3,235 were negative and 920 more are still awaiting laboratory results,” he said.

He also noted 47 recoveries in the country bringing it to a cumulative number of 8,775 recovery cases or 96.8 per cent of total cases recorded. —DayakDaily
