Covid-19 in Sarawak: 19 deaths giving rise to total death toll of 778

KUCHING, Sept 27: Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today reports 19 Covid-19 related deaths and 2,723 new cases.

The 19 deaths is a figure spread over the last 20 days. The earliest case was backdated to Sept 7, involving an 87-year-old woman from Kuching, who had the condition of high blood pressure while a Kuching man of 67 years old, who was also suffering from high blood pressure, passed away on Sept 18.

On Sept 23, a woman of 64 years old who suffered from high blood pressure, diabetes and heart illness died in the Sibu Hospital.


On Sept 24, there were four deaths involving two women from Sri Aman, a 47-year-old man from Serian and a 41-year-old woman from Sarikei. All four Covid-19 victims suffered from high blood pressure while among them, three also suffered from other chronic conditions such as kidney failure.

Sept 25 was the day with the highest number of deaths of 11 with victims of age ranging from 64 to 92. They included one woman each from Sri Aman and Bintulu, one man and one woman from Sibu, while the rest of them (seven) were from Kuching. They all shared at least one same underlying health condition and that was high blood pressure.

Yesterday (Sept 26), a 74-year-old woman from Sarikei who suffered multiple health conditions of high blood pressure, diabetes and hyperthyroid passed away due to Covid-19.

With today’s 19 fatalities, the total death toll due to Covid-19 in Sarawak has increased to 778.

Meanwhile, out of the 2,723 new Covid-19 confirmed cases today, 99.56 per cent or 2,711 were cases classified as Category 1 (no symptoms) and Category 2 (mild symptoms) patients.

There were two cases placed under Category 3 (lung infections), four under Category 4 (lung infections and needs oxygen support) while six who were Category 5 patients need ventilator support.

By district, Kuching recorded the highest number of cases with 888, followed by Samarahan (249) and Miri (249), Sibu (228), Sri Aman (184), Bintulu (119), Serian (105), Asajaya (93), Sarikei (88), Saratok (82), Kanowit (52), Bau (42) and Meradong (26).

Districts registering less than 20 new cases are Pusa (19), Kapit (18), Belaga (18), Lubok Antu (15), Pakan (15), Lundu (13), Lawas (13), Subis (12), Simunjan (11), Marudi (10), Dalat (7), Tebedu (7), Beluru (5), Tanjung Manis (3), Kabong (3), Bukit Mabong (3), Tatau (3), Selangau (2), Mukah (1), Julau (1), Daro (1) and Telang Usan (1).

Three districts of Sebauh, Song and Matu did not report any new cases today. — DayakDaily
