KUCHING, May 1: The number of Covid-19 cases in Bintulu has seen an improvement from yesterday’s (April 30) 202 cases to 31 new cases today.
Replacing Bintulu as the district with the most number of infection cases in Sarawak, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Sibu recorded a total of 98 out of 445 Covid-19 cases for the day.
Other districts with new cases were Beluru (51), Miri (41), Mukah (40), Selangau (37), Kuching (26), Samarahan (22), Serian (20), Julau (12), Kanowit (12), Subis (11), Limbang (10), Tebedu (8), Kapit (6), Meradong (4), Song (3), Tatau (3), Belaga (2), Bau (2), Bukit Mabong (2), Saratok (1), Sebauh (1), Asajaya (1) and Betong (1).
With that, SDMC in a statement today said the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 31,104.
Out of the 445 today, 235 cases were detected following close contact screenings where seven of them were symptomatic.
Another 115 cases were individual screenings from active clusters where zero cases showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.
There were 48 cases that were from symptomatic tests in health facilities, 45 cases of other screenings from health facilities and another two Import-B cases who returned from other states in Malaysia.
Meanwhile, the committee also reported two new deaths from Covid-19 today, thus pushing the State’s death toll to 180.
Fatality cases number 179 involved a 72-year-old Sarawakian female who tested positive for the virus on April 18 through her rapid test polymerase chain reaction (rT-PCR) test in an active screening event at a high-risk area.
She was immediately admitted to the Bintulu Hospital after she began experiencing Covid-19 symptoms such as fever, coughs and difficulty in breathing.
The victim who had comorbidities such as hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia then passed away on April 28 after her health deteriorated.
The second Covid-19 death case of the day involved a 75-year-old Sarawakian male who also experienced breathing difficulties and coughing before he was admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment.
He was found dead on April 30 and his medical history revealed comorbidities of hypertension and chronic obstructive lung diseases.
With 441 new recoveries throughout Sarawak, there are still 5,419 patients who are receiving treatment in the hospitals across Sarawak. — DayakDaily
