Covid-19 continues to wreak havoc in 28 Sarawak districts with 474 new cases and 1 death today

KUCHING, April 22: Covid-19 continues to rear its ugly head in 28 districts in Sarawak today, with the emergence of 474 new cases and one fatality.

According to the reports from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 26,032.

The districts reporting new cases are Bintulu (103), Sibu (84), Miri (46), Kuching (35), Song (35), Kapit (34), Mukah (27), Serian (24), Saratok (13), Pakan (11), Tanjung Manis (11), Kanowit (10), Sarikei (8), Selangau (6), Bukit Mabong (4), Sebauh (3), Betong (3), Beluru (3), Samarahan (3), Bau (2), Kabong (2), Meradong (1), Dalat (1), Julau (1), Marudi (1), Limbang (1), Asajaya (1) and Lundu (1).

Out of the 474 today, 370 cases were detected following close contact screenings where 14 of them were symptomatic.

Another 50 cases were from symptomatic tests in health facilities and 28 cases were other screenings from health facilities.

There were 26 cases that were individual screenings from active clusters, where one case showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

SDMC also reported one fatality in Kapit today, thus pushing Sarawak’s Covid-19 death toll to 146.

The 146th death cases involved an 80-year-old Sarawakian man who experienced breathing difficulties before he was admitted to hospital for further treatment.

His condition later deteriorated and he was confirmed to have passed away on April 21. The victim had comorbidities such as hypertension and chronic obstructive lung disease.

Meanwhile, with 556 new recoveries throughout Sarawak, there are still 5,623 patients who are receiving treatment in hospitals across Sarawak. — DayakDaily
