KUCHING, March 24: Another Covid-19 patient has died today, bringing the number of fatalities in the country so far to 15 cases.

Ministry of Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah disclosed the victim — case 1519 — was a 71-year-old Malaysian citizen from Melaka.

“He was suspected to have contact with a confirmed Covid-19 case (case 703 who had attended the tabligh gathering at Seri Petaling Mosque).

“He has a history of chronic disease and had been treated in Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital in Muar (Johor) from March 18. He was pronounced dead at 5.35am (today),” he disclosed via a brief statement on the Malaysia Health Ministry Facebook page.

Meanwhile, Malaysia registered 212 new Covid-19 cases as of Monday (March 23) noon.

This brings the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Malaysia to 1,518.

Out of the 212 new Covid-19 cases, 123 cases were linked to the cluster from the Seri Petaling tabligh event.

It was the highest number of new cases recorded in a day, with the previous record at 190 new cases on March 15.

A total of 57 Covid-19 patients were currently being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), out of which, 27 cases needed respiratory aid. — DayakDaily
