KUCHING, July 31: Serian recorded a spike in Covid-19 infections with 101 cases today, placing second after Kuching that has registered 274 new cases.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) reported that the cases in Serian comprised 62 close contact cases, 26 cases from active clusters, 11 cases detected from symptomatic screening and two from other screenings.
As for Kuching, 148 cases were from close contacts to Covid-19 patients, 27 from symptomatic screening, 98 from other screenings and one from an active cluster.
Other districts that saw double-digit case included Simunjan Sibu (21), Bau (21), Bintulu (12) and Kabong (11).
The remaining districts with new infections were Simunjan (6), Tatau (5), Beluru (4), Miri (3), Betong (3), Subis (3), Mukah (3), Saratok (2), Kapit (2), Lundu (1), Tebedu (1), Sarikei (1), Telang Usan (1), Dalat (1), Song (1) and Pusa (1).
With 485 new cases today, the State tally for positive cases has swelled to 76,728.
“Out of the figure, 257 were detected following close contact screenings where 13 of them were symptomatic.
“Another 54 cases were of individual screenings from active clusters where six showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19.
“There were 52 cases that were of symptomatic screenings from health facilities, 121 cases from other screenings in health facilities, and one Import-B case involving a returnee from Kuala Lumpur,” it said in the statement on Covid-19 updates for Sarawak today.
SDMC also reported three Covid-19 fatalities today, thus raising the Covid-19 death toll to 462.
Of the three victims, aged between 43 and 83, one was from Kuching and two were from Sibu. An 83-year-old female from Kuching showed no records of comorbidity.
Meanwhile, 453 patients have been discharged from hospitals across Sarawak with 5,519 active cases still remain in isolation and treatment.
On the Covid-19 advisory status, 16 districts in Sarawak are in the red zones, seven under orange zones and 11 under yellow zones.
Lubok Antu is the latest district to be added to the green zones to join five other districts namely Matu, Julau, Marudi, Sebauh and Limbang to be free from Covid-19. — DayakDaily
