Covid-19 cases in Sarawak falls to 287, Kuching reports 86 cases

KUCHING, Nov 15: New Covid-19 cases in Sarawak continued to decline for the third consecutive day, while cases in Kuching fell below 100 for the second consecutive day.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee’s (SDMC) update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak today, Sarawak recorded 287 new cases.

This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases in Sarawak to 247,667.


SDMC said out of the 287 cases, 11 cases were classified as critical as patients were in Categories 3, 4 and 5.

There were two Covid-19 patients in Category 5 who were intubated, four patients in Category 4 on breathing support and five patients in Category 3 with pneumonia.

Adding on, there were 173 Covid-19 patients in Category 2 with mild symptoms and 103 asymptomatic patients in Category 1.

By districts, 24 out of 40 reported new cases today, compared to 29 which recorded new cases yesterday.

Kuching reported 86 new cases and remained the district that registered the highest number of new cases throughout Sarawak.

This was followed by five more districts that reported double-digit cases.

They are Miri with 47 cases, Sibu (33), Bintulu (25), Mukah (21) and Lawas (21).

Districts with less than 10 cases were Limbang (8), Dalat (7), Samarahan (6), Sarikei (5), Bau (5), Sri Aman (4), Kapit (2), Serian (2), Tanjung Manis (2), Saratok (2), Song (2), Belaga (2) Subis (2), Betong (1), Lundu (1), Kanowit (1), Bukit Mabong (1) and Matu (1).

Areas with no new cases include Daro, Simunjan, Asajaya, Pusa, Meradong, Marudi, Beluru, Lubok Antu, Tebedu, Kabong, Selangau, Telang Usan, Tatau, Julau, Sebauh and Pakan.

On the other hand, the 12 new Covid-19 deaths that were reported today bring the death toll in Sarawak to 1,530.

No new clusters were identified while one active cluster, namely the Long Urun Cluster in Belaga, ended.

With that, there are still 10 active clusters in the state. — DayakDaily
