Covid-19 cases in Sarawak bounce back to 376, from 242 yesterday

KUCHING, June 30: Covid-19 cases in Sarawak today climbed to 376 from 242 reported yesterday with Kuching, Sibu, Bau, Mukah and Telang Usan showing a bump in new cases.

According to a report from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Kuching, Sibu, Bau, Mukah and Telang Usan contributed more than two-thirds of the new cases disclosed today.

Kuching registered the highest number of new cases at 94 followed by Sibu with 63, Bau (32), Mukah (28), Telang Usan (21), Serian (17), Sarikei (14), Samarahan (14), Sri Aman (13) and Miri (10).

The balance of new cases were single digit figures contributed by Selangau with nine cases, Bintulu (9), Kanowit (9), Subis (7), Meradong (7), Saratok (6), Lundu (5), Kapit (5), Dalat (3), Asajaya (3), Pakan (2), Tebedu (2), Tatau (2) and Lawas (1).

“From the 376 new cases reported, a total of 37 persons showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 during screenings.

“There are 315 cases identified from individuals who have been given quarantine orders.

“Out of that, 254 cases were from close contact screenings whereby 12 were symptomatic, 61 cases from individual screenings in active clusters who are asymptomatic, 38 cases from other screenings at health facilities with two symptomatic cases and 23 cases from symptomatic screening at health facilities,” SDMC said.

With this, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak has increased to 64,851.

Meanwhile, there was one death due to Covid-19 reported, bringing the State’s death toll to 409.

The victim was a 75-year-old man from Kapit who had hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, gout and chronic kidney and heart diseases.

There were 430 Covid-19 patients reported recovered, bringing total recoveries in the State to 54,183 persons or 83.55 per cent of the overall cases in Sarawak.

A total of 10,109 Covid-19 patients are still being treated at various health facilities and Covid-19 quarantine and low-risk treatment centres (PKRCs). — DayakDaily
