Covid-19: 19 new cases, one death recorded nationwide

KUCHING, June 5: Malaysia has recorded 19 new positive Covid-19 cases and one death today.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brings the total number of confirmed cases to 8,266 while the total death toll now stands at 116.


“Of the 19 new cases, seven were imported from overseas while 12 were local transmission, of which nine were Malaysians and three foreigners,” Dr Noor Hisham said at the ministry’s daily live Covid-19 briefing in Putrajaya.

As for the latest death, he said the victim is a 61-year-old Malaysian man with a history of diabetes and high blood pressure.

“He was admitted in Johor on May 29 and was pronounced dead at 10.20 pm last night (June 4),” he added.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said that 51 more patients were discharged in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number to 6,610 patients who have recovered from Covid-19.

“Malaysia’s recovery rate is now at 80 per cent.  As of today, 1,540 active cases are still being treated at the health facilities nationwide.  A total of six patients are being treated at intensive care units (ICU), with one of them requiring ventilators,” he said. -DayakDaily
