Court of Appeal upholds death sentence for man convicted of Bill Kayong’s murder

KUCHING, Feb 18: The Court of Appeal affirmed the conviction of Mohamad Fitri Pauzi in the murder of Bill Kayong.

A three-men bench led by Datuk Mary Lim Thiam Suan unanimously affirmed the conviction and the sentence against Mohd Fitri Pauzi over Bill’s murder in 2016.

Bill was shot to death at a traffic light intersection near Emart Commercial Centre, Kuala Baram Bypass on June 21, 2016.

Four persons were arrested but only Mohamad Fitri Pauzi was convicted under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

The other suspects arrested were Datuk Stephen Lee, Lie Chang Loon and Chin Wui Chung. They were released and acquitted from the charge of being accomplices in hiring Mohamad Fitri Pauzi and another man who is still at large to murder Bill Kayong.
