KUCHING, July 20: An unemployed man has been fined RM1,000 for assaulting his ex-wife’s male companion with a motorcycle helmet.
Mohamad Nadzir Ayub, 42, pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code that was read before Magistrate Manson Jaro Lenya Barayan.
The section deals with voluntarily causing hurt to another person.
He was accused of assaulting a 25-year-old male victim who was the male companion of his ex-wife using a motorcycle helmet, resulting in injuries in front of a restaurant at Jalan Astana at around 10pm on July 15.
According to the brief facts of the case, the victim was driving a Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) with the accused’s ex-wife as his passenger.
Suddenly, the accused, who was riding a motorcycle, cut in front of their vehicle and came to a halt.
The accused’s ex-wife then alighted from the car and without warning, the accused entered the vehicle and began assaulting the victim with a helmet, punching and hitting him repeatedly.
The cause of the violent altercation stemmed from the accused’s dissatisfaction and his baseless accusations that the victim was the main reason behind the divorce between the accused and his ex-wife.
As a result of the incident, the victim suffered bruises on his face. He promptly filed a police report for further action against the assailant.
The prosecution was conducted by Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang while the accused was not represented by legal counsel. — DayakDaily
