Courier service company in Bandar Baru Mukah sparks new Covid-19 cluster with 52 cases

KUCHING, Aug 28: A courier service company in Bandar Baru Mukah, Mukah has sparked a new workplace cluster dubbed the Bandar Baru Mukah Cluster with 52 Covid-19 confirmed cases so far.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today said 109 individuals have been screened.


“Of these, 52 people tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case, 56 were negative and one is still awaiting test result,” the Committee said.

All positive cases from the cluster were referred and admitted to Mukah Hospital and Mukah Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) for isolation and further treatment.

SDMC also reported another workplace cluster dubbed the Ladang Hijau 01 Cluster in Beluru with 19 confirmed cases so far.

The cluster stemmed from a palm oil plantation which has been placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in Beluru.

A total of 209 individuals have been screened whereby 19 people tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case, 17 were negative while 173 are still awaiting test results.

All positive cases from the cluster were referred and admitted to Miri Hospital and Miri PKRC for isolation and further treatment.

These two clusters were among six new clusters declared in Sarawak today. The other four were Kampung Simpok Cluster in Serian; Kampung Batu Kitang Jaya Cluster and Jalan Kilang Pending Cluster in Kuching; and Merajang Cluster in Limbang.

At the same time, SDMC announced the end of Jalan Sungai Tapang Cluster in Kuching after no new infections were reported within the past 28 days.

At present, there are 131 active clusters in the State with 25 of them recording an increase of 300 new positive cases. — DayakDaily
