Couple charged with Sibu suitcase murder

SIBU, Oct 19: A couple could face the death penalty if convicted for murdering a woman whose body was found stuffed in a suitcase in Jalan Aman on Oct 6.

Cheung Chia Ming from Jalan Tun Sambathan, Kuala Lumpur and his wife, Seow Pei Chie of Subang Jaya, Selangor was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder at the Magistrate’s Court here today.

The offence carries the mandatory death sentence by hanging if convicted.


Both accused, 38, understood the charge when it was read to them by a court interpreter. No plea was taken from them.

Magistrate Fatimah Azura Wan Ali denied them bail and ordered them be remanded in prison until November 19 for further mention of the case.

According to the brief facts of the case, the duo was charged with committing murder by causing the death of Heng Meow Lin, 37, from Perak, at a house in Jalan Tong Sang between 10pm on October 5 and 6am on October 6.

Heng’s body stuffed in a suitcase was found by a passerby in Jalan Aman who later alerted the police.

Police believe that jealousy and money to be the reasons for the murder of the woman by the two accused.

Heng leaves behind a 16-year-old daughter who is staying in Perak.

A post mortem done on the body on October 13 at Sibu Hospital by a forensics expert from Kuching showed that the victim succumbed to asphyxia and head injury due to blunt force trauma. — DayakDaily
