KUCHING, Nov 30: The Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) has confirmed that the proposed retrofitting and covered outdoor learning areas (COLA) project for the Miri Public Swimming Pool will undergo a retender process following the withdrawal of the appointed contractor.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report, SSC said the contractor had formally submitted a surrender letter and subsequently halted all on-site work, effectively abandoning the project.
The corporation emphasised that the situation is being handled in accordance with government procedures to safeguard public funds and ensure accountability.
At present, SSC is conducting a full documentation exercise to determine the actual physical progress, the value of completed works, and the remaining scope required to complete the facility.
The assessment also includes technical reviews to ensure that the continuation of the project will meet safety standards and regulatory compliance.
SSC stated that this step is crucial to avoid discrepancies in the retender process and to ensure the next appointed contractor can proceed without complications.
Once the review is finalised, SSC will initiate a retender exercise for the remaining works, with the process expected to begin in January 2026.
In September last year, it was reported that the swimming pool was expected to be completed by the first quarter of this year, with plans to open to the public by the second quarter of the year. — DayakDaily
