KUCHING July 12: Continuous upskilling and reskilling of Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) educators is essential to ensure they are well-prepared to guide learners in the digital era, says Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapee.
Dr Annuar believed the integration of digital technologies in TVET would facilitate adequate training and professional development for educators.
“To effectively incorporate the digital tool into their teaching, TVET educators need to be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge,” he said at the launching of the 7th Technology And Innovation International Conference (Techon) 2023, held at The Waterfront Hotel today.
Dr Annuar was representing Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn, at the conference which was themed ‘Empowering TVET Towards Accelerating Digital Transformation’.
He opined that in expanding on the significance of digital transformation in TVET, it is essential to recognise its impact on individuals, industries, and societies, as a whole.
“The integration of digital technologies not only enhances the learning experience but also has far-reaching implications for economic growth and societal development.”
He hoped by equipping learners with the digital skills required in the workforce, TVET institutions can contribute to reducing the skills gap and unemployment rates.
Dr Annuar opined that the ability to navigate and leverage digital tools and technologies has become a fundamental requirement in today’s job market.
“Therefore, TVET institutions must prepare learners for the digital jobs of the future by ensuring their programmes and curricula are aligned with industry needs and trends,” he said.
