KUCHING, Dec 20: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) has issued an alert for continuous rain in Sarawak, expected to persist until Dec 22, due to the ongoing monsoon surge.

The affected areas include Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit (Song and Kapit), Bintulu, and Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri, and Marudi).

Additionally, a low-pressure area is forecast to form over Sarawak from Dec 20 to 22, potentially causing continuous rain in eastern Johor, Sarawak, Sabah, and WP Labuan during this period.

METMalaysia has also updated the strong winds and rough seas warning for the South China Sea, effective until Dec 24.

A third-category strong wind and rough seas warning has been issued for the waters of Sarawak within 24 nautical miles, with northeasterly winds expected to exceed 60 km/h and waves reaching heights of over 4.5 meters.

This warning, in effect until Dec 24, indicates unsafe conditions for water activities and raises concerns about the safety of coastal and offshore operations, including shipping and oil rig activities.

All those involved are urged to exercise extreme caution during this period.

The public is advised to regularly check METMalaysia’s website, follow the official social media channels of METMalaysia, and download the myCuaca app for the latest and most accurate information. — DayakDaily
