Contaminant liquid issue resolved, more trial runs for hydrogen buses

KUCHING, Oct 17: The hydrogen fuel cell buses are expected to proceed with another set of trial run from Oct 15 till the end of the month.

Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the hydrogen fuel cell buses are undergoing refuelling testing at the hydrogen refuel station to fine tune the configuration for both refuelling station and the hydrogen fuel cell system of the buses.

“In this regard, the contaminant liquid issue has been resolved following to the completion of the improvement works on Sarawak Energy’s Integrated Hydrogen Production Plant and Refuelling Station by the system integrator and technology provider, Linde EOX Sdn Bhd (“Linde”).

“In order to fulfil its research and development purpose, the state government through Sarawak Energy, will continue to monitor the performance test of the facility,” said Lee in a statement today.

He said the hydrogen bus initiative is being implemented under the State Project Applied Research and Development on Hydrogen Gas.

“Subsequently, the trial run is crucial to ensure sufficient data and information such as performance of the hydrogen fuel cell buses, the hydrogen consumption, refuelling time, etc… can be gathered by the experts and reported to Sarawak Energy and SEDC (Sarawak Economic Development Corporation).”

Three hydrogen fuel cell-powered buses hit the roads for trial since August this year. However, recently, there were news reports of troubles faced by the three hydrogen buses, which underwent trial runs in the city. — DayakDaily
