Construction worker killed after being crushed by falling concrete beam in Stutong

KUCHING, Sept 20: A 33-year-old construction worker was killed after being crushed by a falling concrete beam at a building site in Jalan Stutong this morning.

Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said Sungai Maong police station received a call at about 10.16am from a member of the public reporting the incident.

A police team rushed to the scene and found that the victim had already been pronounced dead by medical officers from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, a local man, was working at the site when he was struck by a concrete beam that was being hoisted to the fifth floor.

“The beam slipped at the second floor and fell, crushing the victim,” he said in a statement today.

The victim suffered severe head injuries and died at the scene. His body has been sent to SGH for a post-mortem.

Police are appealing to members of the public who may have information on the incident to contact Sungai Maong Police Station chief Insp Awang Ramzi Awang Junaidi at 019-8444123, call the station at 082-241167, or approach the nearest police station.

ACP Alexson also reminded the public not to speculate on the case out of respect for the victim’s family. — DayakDaily
