MIRI, May 4: The construction and improvement of roads to Long Selaan and Long Moh here in Ulu Baram are expected to be completed by end of this year.

The Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) said the works involve the upgrading of 16km road from the existing 18.9km logging road to Long Selaan, as well as construction of new 8.2km road from Long Selaan to Long Moh junction.

A new 250m spur road to SK Long Moh will also be constructed while another 0.4km existing logging roads from Long Moh junction to Long Moh village will be improved.

Deputy Premier-cum-Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas visited the construction site on Wednesday (May 3), which includes the construction of two main bridges crossing the Baram River at Long Selaan and the Moh River at Long Moh.

“The roads have the potential to be upgraded and become part of the Border Security Road in the future, crossing between Murum, Long Selaan, Long Banga, Bario and Ba’Kelalan.

“This project will have a significant impact on the Telang Usan area, facilitating travel between 12 villages scattered on the right of the Baram River and 10 villages on the left, reducing the travelling time by approximately five hours from Lio Mato to Long Silat,” said Recoda in a statement today.

It added that the proposed improvement and construction of roads to Long Selaan and Long Moh is another step towards the development of Telang Usan and improving the lives of rural communities in the highlands. — DayakDaily
