KUCHING, March 28: The construction of the Wisma Melayu Sarawak building is 55 days ahead of schedule at 33 per cent progress, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

Awang Tengah, who is also Second Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development and Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment, said the project is expected to be completed by May 2025.

“The building will have a hall that can accommodate about 2,500 people at one time, and office and gallery spaces. This is for the first phase of the construction.

“For the second phase, we plan to build the commercial building and hotel,” he said at a press conference after visiting the Wisma Melayu Sarawak construction site at Jalan Diplomatik near Bako here today, according to a statement.

“With one of the biggest halls in Sarawak, which is second biggest after Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), Wisma Melayu is poised to become a centre for organising local and international events in the future,” he added.

During the visit, Awang Tengah was accompanied by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali and advisor to Ministry of International Trade, Industry, and Investment Dato Naroden Majais. — DayakDaily
