KUCHING, March 16: Construction of the RM2.599 million-1 kilometer ‘missing link’ road from Kampung Penuai to the Pulau Bruit farm road, Daro has been completed.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) yesterday (March 15), Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Office (Corporate Affairs, Information and Ukas) Dato Abdullah Saidol said the road, which is implemented under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), is important to connect seven villages in the northern area of Pulau Bruit to the farm road that was completed previously.

“This project was supposed to be completed in June this year but the contractor was able to implement it faster—6 months earlier in December last year,” he told reporters when met after the handover ceremony for the completed project in Kampung Penuai, Pulau Bruit.

Meanwhile, Abdullah Saidol said Public Works Department (JKR) has briefed him about progress of the RM20 million bridge project to replace the four one-way bridges that connect the main road in the north of Pulau Bruit.

He has requested that construction of four new two-way concrete bridges be expedited so that they can be used this year.

Apart from that, he also hoped that the federal government will continue to implement the road construction project that connects Pulau Bruit to Sungai Nai in the next Malaysia Plan (RMK) because the allocation for the project had been approved by the previous government.

In the same programme, Abdullah was briefed by JKR about the construction of the new Pulau Bruit Community Hall with a capacity of 1,000 people, and estimated cost of RM8.3 million.

In the afternoon, he presented Minor Rural Project (MRP) funds totalling RM113,000 to 16 mosques, 10 surau committees and Village Security and Development committees (JKKK) in the Semop area.

Later the evening, he also presented MRP funds to three mosques and three surau in Bintangor including to Muhajirin Surau Construction Committee, Taman Bintang totaling RM15,000. — DayakDaily
