KUCHING, Jan 11: A new access road from the junction of Jalan Datuk Temenggong Tan Meng Chong to Jalan Ensing Timur near Stapok is set to be constructed at a cost of RM2.02 million.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian emphasised that this project aims to provide an alternative route and alleviate traffic congestion in the Batu Kawah area.
According to a press release from Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) today, the construction of the 285-metre-long road is scheduled to commence on Jan 15, with an anticipated completion date of Sept 15, spanning eight months.
“The area is experiencing rapid development and increasing traffic volume. After gathering feedback and suggestions from local residents, we have decided to construct a new access road to alleviate traffic in the Ensing residential area and improve connectivity to the main road,” he said in the statement.
Yesterday (Jan 10), Dr Sim witnessed the handover of the project award letter by Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) to the contractor.
Dr Sim, who is also Batu Kawah assemblyman, explained that the project had encountered delays due to the necessary land acquisition procedures for accommodating future road expansion of up to four lanes, which would entail additional funds.
Nevertheless, he expressed optimism about the positive impact of the new access road on traffic flow and congestion in the Stapok area under Batu Kawah constituency.
Highlighting the success of a similar project, Dr Sim referenced the completed access road connecting Inspire Heights and Lotak Villas to Jalan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Wee Boon Ping.
He said this project, funded under his Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) allocation at a cost of RM430,000, serves as a promising example of traffic congestion alleviation that has benefitted local residents and other road users.
