KUCHING, Nov 26: The construction of the Kuala Baram fire and rescue station (BBP) worth RM6.6 million is now 90 per cent complete.

According to a report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said BBP Kuala Baram (Class D) provides services for the Kuala Baram area from Tudan to the Brunei Border at Sungai Tujuh.

He said in Kuala Baram, there are three villages namely Kampung Muhibbah, Batu Satu, and Kampung Masjid including 3,000 acres of industrial areas and a port.

“In 2014, I have proposed for a fire station to be built in the Northern area of Miri because, at that time, Miri experienced fires every year, and the current BBP is quite far from Kuala Baram.

“When completed, this BBP can provide services to the Kuala Baram and Tudan areas where peat fires occur every year,” he said when met after a working visit to the Kuala Baram BBP on Thursday.

The Kuala Baram BBP will accommodate about 32 firefighters, including the firefighting machinery as well as the equipment.

Also present during the visit was Zone 6 Miri Bomba chief Supt Law Poh Kiong. — DayakDaily
