BAU, Sept 16: Minister of Communications and Digital Fahmi Fadzil says he will meet with Starlink to have a customer service centre in Sarawak.
He said such a centre was necessary as requests for Starlink satellite devices for Internet connectivity in Sarawak are common.
“As I can see in Sarawak, the requests for Starlink are quite common, so I will communicate with Starlink to have a customer service centre in Sarawak.
“I do hope that they (Starlink) can consider it,” he told reporters today after officiating at the ‘Hari Bersama Komuniti’ at the Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family) Digital Economy Centre (PEDi) at Krokong Community Hall.
Fahmi also said that the ministry’s plan is underway to develop PEDi in Belaga, Betong, Bintulu, Dato, Gedong, and Lawas through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
Saratok, Sebauh, Sebuyau, and Telang Usan are also included in the planning to have such centres.
He added that 133 PEDi are operating Statewide.
He further said that PEDi Krokong will be upgraded to increase the Internet speed from 20 Mbps (Megabits per second) to 100 Mbps, while the centre at Kampung Puak nearby will have its Internet coverage widened.
Also present at the event was Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Teo Nie Ching.
