College student claims trial to possessing drugs

KUCHING, Feb 15: A 22-year-old college student today pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court to possessing 79.50 grams of Cannabis.

Sessions Court Judge Marutin Pagan fixed March 14 for pre-trial case management and ordered that the accused be further detained as the crime committed was unbailable.

Mohd Khairul Ridhuan, a student of Miri Technical College, was charged under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39A(2) of the same Act for possessing 79.50 grams of Cannabis on Feb 1 this year at about 4.30pm at a house located at Haji Kassin.


If convicted, he may be sentenced to life imprisonment or imprisonment of not less than 5 years and whipping of not less than 10 strokes.
