KUCHING, July 25: Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi has revealed that an old log bridge in the vicinity of Ulu Sut Kapit that collapsed yesterday will be rebuilt by the private timber company that constructed it or an alternative solution will be given by government agencies.

Nanta, who is also the Kapit Member of Parliament, said the collapsed bridge along a private logging road affected the timber company, several Iban longhouses and two primary schools in Nanga Antaroh and Ulu Sut in his constituency.

“The log bridge was built by a timber company to carry out their logging activities and also used by villagers and students going to the two schools for decades.

“So if they have not had time to repair or rebuild shortly, I will work with government agencies, the Resident’s and the District’s Office to make an alternative that we can do to help them there,” he told reporters after commenting on the collapsed bridge at Ulu Sut yesterday. A recording of his statement was made available to DayakDaily.

Nanta added that representatives from the Kapit Resident and District offices and other agencies had already visited and reviewed the situation.

“I understand that the timber company is still using the road and going to rebuild the bridge again.” ā€” DayakDaily
