MIRI, Feb 7: The ‘Chinese New Year Ops Selamat’ operation from Feb 8 to 13 will focus on three main routes, namely Jalan Bakam, the Pan Borneo Highway, and Jalan Miri Bypass.

Miri OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said heavy vehicles or goods-carrying vehicles will not be allowed during this six-day operation.

“Strict action will be taken against any company or individual who does not comply with the ban,” he said after launching a road safety campaign in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration at Morsjaya here today.

More than 100 police personnel in Miri will be involved in the Ops Selamat this year.

On another note, a total of 51 road accidents were recorded for January this year, compared to 57 for the same month in 2023.

Amongst the contributors for these accidents were reckless driving (85 per cent), rear-end collisions (28 per cent), speeding (24 per cent), side-impact collisions (19 per cent), and head-on-collisions (9 per cent). — DayakDaily
