SIBU, Feb 16: The Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land And Regional Development (Manred) has given its approval for Sibu and Kanowit Area Farmers Organisations to buy agricultural produce from farmers.
In a statement, the ministry said the purpose of this programme is to help farmers who are struggling to sell their agricultural produce such as vegetables and fruits during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) from Feb 15 to March 1.
“Manred has approved this initiative to help the farmers in the marketing of their crops. Therefore Area Farmers Organisations are required to play a role and act as a facilitator between the wholesalers (buyers) and individuals, group farmers and entrepreneurs who are involved in the supply of vegetables and fruit in Sibu and Kanowit,” it said.
The respective area farmer organisation of the two locations meanwhile welcomed farmers to participate in the the programme.
Farmers are advised to send their produce to Sibu Area Farmers Organisation and Kanowit Area Farmers Organisation from Monday to Thursday from 8.30am to 11am daily at the following venues:
