SPAOH, Nov 24: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to launch the earth breaking ceremony for the Bebuling STOlport (short take-off and landing airport) here on Nov 30.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the RM108.1 million Bebuling STOLport project is now one step closer to implementation.

“The airport is part of the Sarawak government’s initiatives in making the State a net food producer by the year 2030 and Spaoh a part of the greater Betong Food Basket area.

“The State government has identified the Bebuling area comprising 250 hectares for the implementation of one of the six agroparks in the State, which will be helmed by precision or smart farming.

“The Bebuling STOLport will cater for immediate transportation of our agricultural produce to the markets,” he said following a visit to the site yesterday (Nov 23).

Uggah, who is also Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Rural Development, was accompanied by the political secretary to the Chief Minister Dr Richard Rapu, Layar incumbent Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, Betong Division Resident officer Richard Abunamas, and Divisional Public Works Department (JKR) engineer Chiresly Francis Kureng.

The Bebuling STOL port was awarded to local company D.A.L Keluarga Realty Cara Raya JV Sdn Bhd for its construction.

The project is now in active stage of site clearing, and is scheduled to be completed on Sept 16, 2023. — DayakDaily
