KUCHING, Nov 22: Sarawak will focus on food production, environmental sustainability, and healthcare as key areas of transformation, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Abang Johari said with the digital economy foundation being laid out, Sarawak must have a certain product that can be promoted to the world.

“Sarawak has land and the right ecosystem to produce food. Sarawak also has good climate for sustainable environment to drive the state economy, and that is why under the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, I emphasised on environmental sustainability.

“For healthcare, I have established the Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre (SIDC) to contribute to our research and through the right technology, surgery also can be performed through the internet.

“These three areas will transform the world and I think Sarawak can be part of that transformation,” said Abang Johari in his speech during the launching ceremony of Tegas (Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak) Digital Village, which was broadcast live via the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) Facebook page, today.

Abang Johari noted that when Sarawak started its journey towards a digital economy, the first thing it did was establish an ecosystem that will enable the people to use technology as part of the implementation process for projects and economic activities within the ecosystem.

“As far as we are concerned, now that we have the Tegas Digital Village, the facilities provided can contribute towards a productive environment to brainstorm and at the same time to explore and establish networking.

“Digital economy is networking and connectivity; these are the two fundamentals of digital economy,” he added.

During the ceremony, Abang Johari also launch the ‘Sarawak Digital Innovation & Entrepreneurship Ecosystem’ book, followed by witnessing the exchange of Memorandum of Understanding between Tegas and its partners. — DayakDaily
