KUCHING, March 26: Measures announced by the Sarawak government under the Sarawakku Sayang Covid-19 financial package are already being rolled out.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg disclosed this at a press conference today at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here.

“We shall monitor closely the impact of the Covid-19 outbreak on the ordinary people and we shall monitor the roll-out of the various economic initiatives that were announced recently.

“The Sarawak government will review from time to time the economic impact of the Movement Control Order (MCO) and will endeavour to find solutions to enable the people to return to normal life,” said Abang Johari.

He believed that the initiatives under the Sarawakku Sayang Covid-19 financial package will make an impact on Sarawak’s economy and its people.

On March 23, Abang Johari had unveiled a six-month stimulus package known as Sarawakku Sayang Covid-19 financial package.

The financial aid amounting to RM1.146 billion and consisting of 16 measures was launched to cushion the impact of Covid-19.

Among the measures were five to 25 per cent discounts for electricity and water bills for all domestic, commercial and industrial consumers, for six months.

There is also the Sarawakku Sayang special aid for the B40 low income group which is expected to benefit 430,000 Sarawakians.

A special monthly incentive of RM300 and RM250 will be given to medical personnel and uniform groups respectively for six months.

Other measures also include discounts for market and stall rental fees, fee waivers for permits and licences, 25 per cent discount on assessment rates, 30 per cent discount on land rent, and deferment of loan payments for small and medium industries and other financial initiatives. — DayakDaily
