KUCHING, Feb 12: Sarawak government is set for better policies that will help to gear the state’s economic activities forward and benefit Sarawakians as a whole.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state government has lined up the plan for the first five years (2020-2025) and would proceed to build the basic infrastructure for the State, from 2025 until 2030.
“What is important is that we give emphasis on our unity and we must have good policies. Meaning that our exit policies, in terms of the economy, must be well structured so that it can reveal our economy after this pandemic.
“Secondly, is to review our social policies. As you know we have given some assistance to the newly born babies, the mothers as well as the population. In other words, a certain social policy that will benefit everybody and it will be very inclusive,” he said.
Johari said this in his addressing speech during the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP)  Virtual Chinese New Year Open House held online using the Zoom application today.
At the same time, Abang Johari also emphasised that the Sarawak government would also focus on providing education in efforts to transform Sarawak into a developed state by the year 2030.
Citing an example from the Chinese community’s approach on education, Abang Johari said something that is good and would benefit the people should be emulated.
“Wherever there is a Chinese community, the first thing they do is to set up schools. This means that education is the key for us to transform our people,” he added.
On the same note, Abang Johari also convey his gratitude to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, as well as the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) for their hard work in containing and mitigating the effects of Covid-19 in the state.
According to him, SDMC has the power to make their own decision on the pandemic approach, because during the National Security Council (MKN)’s first meeting on Covid-19 which was held in Kuala Lumpur, he requested for Sarawak to have a certain approach that is suitable for the state to mitigate the pandemic problem.
“That is why you noticed that our SDMC has the power to decide what is best for Sarawak. I would like to thank Sarawakians for their strong spirit in facing these challenging times too,” he said. — DayakDaily
