BETONG, Sept 19: The Sarawakku Sayang (SKS) 2026 programme will return to Betong from Sept 25 to 27 after being postponed due to hazardous haze, with improving road infrastructure expected to ease access and encourage public turnout.
According to TVS, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said current weather conditions and positive forecasts from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) indicated that the programme could proceed as scheduled.
“The reason we postponed it from the original date was because the haze had reached dangerous levels at the time. However, conditions have improved over the past few days and, according to the meteorological forecast, they may not worsen from the current situation. We hope the haze will continue to subside,” he said.
Uggah said at least 7,000 people were expected to attend the three-day programme, with 48 agencies set to provide 158 types of services to the public.
He said improving road infrastructure in the area was also expected to make it easier for people to travel to the programme.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is scheduled to attend as the guest of honour and officiate the programme on Sept 26, besides visiting several development projects in the area.
Meanwhile, Deputy State Secretary (Operations) Datu Hii Chang Kee said the programme would feature the Sarawak Cultural Night on Sept 25, People’s Concert on Sept 26 and a 5km Fun Run on Sept 27.
Performances are scheduled by Mawad, Lucy M, Baby Shima, Bob Yusuf and Qian En.
The SKS Betong programme will also offer a total of RM120,000 in prizes, including a car as the grand prize in the e-contest.
Following Betong, the SKS programme will be held in Mukah from Oct 2 to 4, Sri Aman from Oct 16 to 18 and subsequently in Kota Samarahan, Serian and Kuching through the end of November. — DayakDaily
