KUCHING, July 16: Sarawak’s political stability, open society, clear policies, and focus on human capital development are key factors drawing international investors to its renewable energy and green technology sectors, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

According to a TVS news report, Fadillah said Sarawak is one of the most stable states in Malaysia and has built a strong foundation in attracting foreign investment, particularly in hydrogen and clean energy initiatives.

“In terms of politics, we are among the most stable states in Malaysia. Kuching itself is known as the ‘City of Unity’. Our society is open-minded and educated, especially in communication and skills.

“With clear policies and strategies, supported by a skilled and trainable workforce, this is the strong foundation for Sarawak to move forward and realise its Sarawak Vision 2030 of becoming a prosperous state,” he said.

Fadillah made these remarks in response to a question by Kevin Ong Abdullah during a vision dialogue titled ‘Sarawak at the Forefront: Malaysia’s Role in Driving Regional Clean Energy Leadership’ held in conjunction with the 6th International Energy Week (IEW) 2025 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here yesterday (July 15).

He said the Sarawak government places strong emphasis on building the knowledge and skills of its people to enable them to contribute to the State’s progress and support incoming investments through expertise and a willingness to embrace new technologies.

In the context of hydrogen development, Fadillah noted that besides Petronas, countries like Japan and South Korea have shown strong interest in collaborating with Sarawak on hydrogen technology.

“Projects such as Hibiscus Hydrogen are among the most advanced in clean energy development. For that, we truly need international investors, not just in terms of capital, but also for technology transfer and expertise,” he explained.

He stressed that the presence of foreign investors does not merely bring in funding but also accelerates the development of new technologies in Sarawak.

“That is why more and more international investments are flowing into Sarawak. In fact, during my recent visits abroad, many parties have shown keen interest, and Sarawak is now recognised as one of the leading pioneers in renewable and clean energy development,” he added.

Fadillah further highlighted the growing interest in Sarawak, with many international stakeholders eager to learn more and be part of the State’s future energy growth.

Sarawak is now on the right track to becoming a regional green energy hub, with various strategic initiatives underway, including the development of a hydrogen economy and technological collaborations with developed nations. — DayakDaily
