The scope of work includes the construction of a new booster pump station with a capacity of three million litres at Pekan Bekenu, alongside the installation of a 31-kilometre pipeline network.

Sarawak Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT), Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, during an official visit to the Song Booster Station in Miri today, emphasised that the project, once completed, will significantly increase the production capacity of clean water supply, benefiting thousands of households in the targeted areas.

“This project is set to guarantee a better quality of life for the communities in Bekenu, Beluru, Niah, and Subis by ensuring a consistent supply of clean water,” he stated.

He further noted that this initiative is part of six major packages currently underway, amounting to a total of RM85.2 million.

The specific package for Bukit Song involves the construction of the booster pump, storage facilities, and pipelines, representing RM41 million of the overall project cost.

Julaihi also highlighted that the Sarawak government is actively replacing old pipelines to increase the water flow capacity in residential areas, with a substantial allocation of RM517 million through Sarawak’s alternative funding scheme to support various water supply projects across the region.

“With meticulous planning and financial backing, the Sarawak government is committed to ensuring a continuous and adequate clean water supply for all rural areas in the State,” he added. — DayakDaily
