SIBU, Oct 27: Sibu Municipal Council chairman Clarence Ting has no desire to contest in the Sibu seat in the 15th General Election (GE15) under a GPS-SUPP ticket, but is ready if he is nominated.

“Whether the candidacy falls to me or not, I don’t know. But I have expressed (to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) that I have no desire to be the candidate. But if I am nominated, I am ready. I will work every day. How can I not be ready unlike some people who appear once every five years. I am forever ready,” Ting told reporters after chairing a SMC full board meeting today.

Ting said he had met the Premier yesterday on matters related to the development of Sibu.

“I leave it to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to decide because he (Abang Johari) just wanted to meet me and ask me about Sibu’s situation. As I am SMC chairman, he wants to know about the situation here,” he said.

Ting who is SUPP Pelawan chairman is one of the three SUPP potential candidates alongside Tony Hii (Bawang Assan) and Daniel Sng (Nangka) for the seat.

Speculation has been rife that he will likely be chosen to wrest back the seat from the Opposition. — DayakDaily
