KUCHING, April 29: Pakatan Harapan (PH) kick-started their campaign in the high profile Stampin parliamentary seat today by promising a federal minister from Sarawak if they take over Putrajaya this general election.

The potential Federal Minister is none other than Democractic Action Party (DAP) candidate for Stampin Chong Chieng Jen, as announced by DAP secretary Lim Guan Eng at a coffeeshop at RH Plaza this afternoon.

“If we take over Putrajaya, we will appoint a Sarawak Federal Minister. People from Sarawak must support Chong and send him to the parliament,” he told the crowd here.

As to Chong’s opponent, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) candidate for Stampin Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, Lim pointed out that it is still unclear whether Sim will be a federal minister or remain as a state minister after the elections.

He also spoke about the situation in Johor, where the opposition coalition’s ‘ceramah’ in Malay kampung had attracted about 90 per cent of the Malays.

He believed that a political tsunami is in the making in Sabah, together with a Malay tsunami in West Malaysia, and all they need is the support of Sarawak this general election to change the government.

Lim said that Barisan Nasional, for fear of losing the election, had resorted to dirty tactics to disqualify one parliamentary seat and five state seats on nomination day. Nonetheless, he stressed that PH would not be defeated and will work even harder to bring down BN.

He reiterated that PH will demolish GST within 100 days after they take over Putrajaya.

Chong, on the other hand, said the May 9 election is not about him or Dr Sim, but against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and he believed the people want to see a new government, new hope and new policies.

He urged the people to give the future generation a hope and give them a chance to rebuild this country. ā€” DayakDaily
