KUCHING, July 4: More than 100 people in Bau have joined Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak recently.

DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen in a press statement today said the political party has welcomed more than 100 new members from Bau adding that it has set up a new branch in Bau to be led by Granda Aing.

The new branch will work hand-in-hand with the existing DAP Tasik Biru branch in providing service to the people in the Bau region and also preparing for the coming Sarawak state election.

ā€œThis is the fifth new branch in the southern region of Sarawak (being) set up after the start of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) period.

ā€œThe other four are Sg Tapang branch, Stapok branch, Maong Bazaar Branch and Green Road Branch.

ā€œMy advice to the new members is to uphold the good values of DAP and to serve the people without any self-interest,ā€ he said in a statement as he highlighted that DAP’s strength was integrity and discipline.

He stated that when the former Pakatan Harapan (PH) government ruled the country for 22 months, DAP’s insistence on good governance, especially open tenders for government procurements and contracts had angered many, including state governments and those within the PH government.

ā€œAs the chairman of DAP Sarawak, I am glad that ordinary Sarawakians still hold highly and appreciate such values in a political party as this is evident in an influx of new members to the party, especially after the fall of the PH government in March this year,ā€ he added. —DayakDaily
